Steel Railcar Wheel Chocks

Our cast steel railcar wheel chocks have heat-treated spurs to prevent slipping. To extend product life, they can be turned to provide three new, sharp edges, and they can also be easily replaced. OSHA railcar regulations require that a wheel chock be in place before a train’s railcar can be safely worked on, and our wheel chocks are designed to meet those requirements, including OSHA regulations 1910.110(15), 1910.11(13) and 1910.110(A) (5).

Flanges

Midland Bottom Outlet Valves can be mounted on a universal flange that is installed on the tank car. For optimum performance, the flange must be clear of any nicks, burrs, grit, paint, coatings or any other residue on the surface. Offset Cage for Gangways

The G4 Series Offset Cage offers another level of safety with an extra lower tapered railing. It arrives fully assembled and features flared and tapered rungs that give the lid a full range of motion while the equipment is in the working position. Safety is locked in. For operators in the field, it’s becoming a common practice to raise and reposition gangways from the top of railcars or trucks when the hatch interferes. This extremely dangerous habit has increased the risk of operator falls. With the G4 Gangway/Cage Lock-down Assembly, your gangway stays securely in place at all times. Model SR GM1 – Through gear reduction, a worker’s handle effort is multiplied 18-1/2 times. Maximum output 3,200 ft./lbs. – enough to open almost all gates.

Break Away Smart-Hose Safety System

Smart-Hose™ Break-Away Safety System (LL3-B) can help protect your facility from the potentially devastating consequences associated with pull-away incidents. Crude oil sample catchers and oil thieves

We offer Tulsa Oil Thieves in three models and five sizes. All of the sample catchers feature single trip (original with the Tulsa Thief), antifouling flat-ball assembly, a full opening horizontal closure system with rotating valve, two adjustable springs (one for closing tension and one for tripping tension for more flexible adjustment) and adjustable graduated trip rods that hold the thief in an upright position as a hydrometer cylinder. Other than near the top or base castings, petcocks can be installed at any point on any style oil thief. Additionally, the plastic barrels will not crack if the petcock strikes an object.

These truck sample catchers are used for taking a running sample. You can choose between narrow mouth plastic or glass bottle. Bottle and cord are not included with truck sample catchers.

EMERGENCY EYEWASHES / SHOWER EQUIPMENT AND THE ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 – 2014 STANDARD

Are you aware that ANSI guidelines state that Eye Wash/Drench Showers need to be located 10 seconds or 55’ from contaminates or hazardous materials? And they should be on the same horizontal plane, with no obstructions? Long or short! And if bottom loading/unloading and additional shower should be located at grade as well.

While ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 is considered a voluntary standard, OSHA often uses it as a guide when inspecting facilities. As a result, this standard has gained significant importance within in the safety industry; and, by not complying with the standard, OSHA may elect to impose site penalties.

In addition, these units must dispense tepid water. Tepid is defined as “A flushing fluid temperature conductive to promoting a minimum 15-minute irrigation period @ 60 to 100 degrees F (16-38 degrees C)”. Generally, temperatures higher than 100 degrees F may cause chemical interactions with the skin and cause further damage, and at 60 degrees and

Railroad Signs and Signals

Our HEADS UP railcar motion sensor attaches magnetically to the bearing cap freight car wheels. If the wheel turns more than 20 degrees, two flashing amber lights provide visual warning and the battery-powered twin sirens emit a 105-decibel warning. The sirens and lights will remain active until they’re manually shut off.

End-of-Car Warning Signaler

Our End-of-Car Warning Signaler mounts in the hole on the car coupler head, and any movement of the car causes an amber lens to emit a 1-million-candle-power flash 60-90 times per minute. At the same time, a horn sounds a powerful pulsing beep (97 decibels at 4 feet). The flashing light and sound continue for 4 to 5 minutes after the car stops. If any further movement occurs, the signals both resume.

The device comes ready to use and includes a rechargeable 12-volt battery with a 10-hour operating range (a low-battery indicator is included).

“Heads Up” Railcar Motion Detector

This innovative Railcar Motion Detector makes your railcar as safe as your forklifts by giving workers a clear warning if a car starts to move. The ‘HEADS UP’ attaches magnetically to the bearing cap of any freight car wheel and warns workers that a rail car is moving. If the wheel turns more than 10 degrees in either direction, the battery-powered sensor emits a powerful 90 db two-tone warble. The siren has a baffle to moderate the sound level, as well as an illuminated on-off switch.

The NEMA-4X housing is rain- and dust-proof, and all hardware is corrosion-resistant.

Railcar Derail Systems

SafeRack offers one-way and two-way derailing from SaberTooth for industrial siding and approaches to buildings. The portable derails stand 2.75 inches above top of rail to meet current railroad locomotive clearance requirements. They’ve been tested at the Transportation Tech Center in Pueblo, Colorado, where a one-way derail derailed a 6-axle locomotive at 6.2 mph and a two-way derail derailed a 100-ton loaded hopper car at 5.1mph.

DR-5 Double-End Type

The DR-5 derails in both directions. Its dual step bars butt against ties to secure the derail. A set screw adjusts the derail fit to various rail sizes, and a clamp assembly accepts a padlock. At 50 pounds, it fits rails between 100-136#/yd. A sign & holder is included.

Improved Design

A tie-biting hook prevents the derail from sliding in the event a tie brace notch slips off the tie plate. The hook remains trapped between two ties during derailing. Installation can be performed without tools, as the four stainless-steel thumbscrews eliminate the need for wrenches. The device will not cause damage to rail surfaces.

SaberTooth Derails

Blue sign and holder are included with derails (red or orange signs are available). The derails are designed for rails 90 pounds and above that have wooden ties and tie spacing between 18-24 inches. The device will work for freight cars and all sizes of locomotives. It weighs 35 lbs.

Railcar Chocks and Blocks

Railcar Chocks are an important safety item in any rail yard or repair facility, and SafeRack’s railcar wheel chocks provide fast blocking of all types of railcars. Choose from cast steel railcar wheel chocks, rail-clamping wheel blocks the newly introduced urethane railcar wheel chocks… all of which provides worker safety and meets OSHA regulations to safely prevent railroad cars from moving during loading or unloading operations, including OSHA regulations 1910.110(15), 1910.11(13) and 1910.110(A) (5).

Idle Railcar on Storage Track and Railcar Being Worked

Double Chocks on each end of the car provide two-chock blocking against movement in either direction.

Railcar on Slope or Hill

Do not use wheel chocks. Use rail skids or car stops instead.

Railcar Being Worked – Slight Dip

On uneven track if the car tends to roll in one direction, single chocks on the foremost wheel of both wheel sets may be sufficient.

Multiple Railcar Chocking Procedures

Use double chocks. On flat track, where a line of rail cars remain coupled together, and are moved forward progressively to be loaded/unloaded: Brake and chock the car to be worked (chock both ends of the car). It may be necessary to brake and chock several cars behind the car to be worked depending on your operating conditions. When the first car is ready to be moved, remove the chocks and release the brakes on both cars. Move cars forward and repeat the braking and chocking procedure. If cars are uncoupled to be worked separately, brake and chock each car.


Railcar Wheel Chocks OSHA regulations

OSHA mandates the use of wheel chocks in addition to car brakes wherever rail cars are being worked, loaded or unloaded.

A gust of wind is enough to cause a 260,000 pound freight car to start rolling. Thanks to roller bearings, freight car wheels offer very little resistance to movement. In fact, the contact area of each wheel on the rail is smaller that the size of a dime. This is why moving heavy loads by rail is so efficient! But at the same time, all this mass, so easily moved, needs to be securely blocked while the car is being worked.

Loading freight cars increases the strain on the car brakes. Liquid pouring into a tank car or a forklift moving back and forth in a boxcar create dynamic forces which can overcome the holding power of the brakes.

Slack in mechanical car brakes can be enough to allow a wheel to move forward a few inches and dislodge a dock board or strain a hose line

Loading Pulp and Paper Railcars

1910.261(c) …

(4) Handling pulpwood from flatcars and all other railway cars.

(V) Flatcars and all other cars shall be chocked during unloading. Where equipment is not provided with hand brakes, rail damping chocks shall be used.

(vi) A derail shall be used to prevent movement of other rail equipment into cars where persons are working.

Loading Tank Railcars

(iii) Caution signs shall be so placed on the track or car as to give necessary warning to persons approaching the car from open end or ends of siding and shall be left up until after the car is unloaded and disconnected from discharge connections. Signs shall be of metal or other suilable material, at least 12 by 15 inches in size and bear the words ‘’STOP-Tank Car Connected” or ‘’STOP-­Men at Work” the word, “STOP,’ being in letters at least 4 inches high and the other words in letters at least 2 inches high.

(iv) The track of a tank car siding shall be substantially level.

(v) Brakes shall be set and wheels blocked on all cars being unloaded.

Car pullers can put up to 4 tons of pulling power in the hands of your workers. SafeRack car pullers are designed for the industrial firm that needs to move from one to three freight cars  over short distances on flat track. They are typically used infrequently and are not recommended for tracks with grades.

Capstan-type car pullers can pull cars up to 300 feet in one direction. Cars can be pulled along single or parallel tracks, and the rope speed of the device is between 20-40 feet per minute.

Crude oil sample catchers and oil thieves

We offer Tulsa Oil Thieves in three models and five sizes. All of the sample catchers feature single trip (original with the Tulsa Thief), antifouling flat-ball assembly, a full opening horizontal closure system with rotating valve, two adjustable springs (one for closing tension and one for tripping tension for more flexible adjustment) and adjustable graduated trip rods that hold the thief in an upright position as a hydrometer cylinder. Other than near the top or base castings, petcocks can be installed at any point on any style oil thief. Additionally, the plastic barrels will not crack if the petcock strikes an object.

EMERGENCY EYEWASHES / SHOWER EQUIPMENT AND THE ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 – 2014 STANDARD

Are you aware that ANSI guidelines state that Eye Wash/Drench Showers need to be located 10 seconds or 55’ from contaminates or hazardous materials? And they should be on the same horizontal plane, with no obstructions? Long or short! And if bottom loading/unloading and additional shower should be located at grade as well.

While ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 is considered a voluntary standard, OSHA often uses it as a guide when inspecting facilities. As a result, this standard has gained significant importance within in the safety industry; and, by not complying with the standard, OSHA may elect to impose site penalties.

In addition, these units must dispense tepid water. Tepid is defined as “A flushing fluid temperature conductive to promoting a minimum 15-minute irrigation period @ 60 to 100 degrees F (16-38 degrees C)”. Generally, temperatures higher than 100 degrees F may cause chemical interactions with the skin and cause further damage, and at 60 degrees and

Railroad Signs and Signals

Our HEADS UP railcar motion sensor attaches magnetically to the bearing cap freight car wheels. If the wheel turns more than 20 degrees, two flashing amber lights provide visual warning and the battery-powered twin sirens emit a 105-decibel warning. The sirens and lights will remain active until they’re manually shut off.

End-of-Car Warning Signaler

Our End-of-Car Warning Signaler mounts in the hole on the car coupler head, and any movement of the car causes an amber lens to emit a 1-million-candle-power flash 60-90 times per minute. At the same time, a horn sounds a powerful pulsing beep (97 decibels at 4 feet). The flashing light and sound continue for 4 to 5 minutes after the car stops. If any further movement occurs, the signals both resume.

The device comes ready to use and includes a rechargeable 12-volt battery with a 10-hour operating range (a low-battery indicator is included).

“Heads Up” Railcar Motion Detector

This innovative Railcar Motion Detector makes your railcar as safe as your forklifts by giving workers a clear warning if a car starts to move. The ‘HEADS UP’ attaches magnetically to the bearing cap of any freight car wheel and warns workers that a rail car is moving. If the wheel turns more than 10 degrees in either direction, the battery-powered sensor emits a powerful 90 db two-tone warble. The siren has a baffle to moderate the sound level, as well as an illuminated on-off switch.

The NEMA-4X housing is rain- and dust-proof, and all hardware is corrosion-resistant.

Railcar Derail Systems

SafeRack offers one-way and two-way derailing from SaberTooth for industrial siding and approaches to buildings. The portable derails stand 2.75 inches above top of rail to meet current railroad locomotive clearance requirements. They’ve been tested at the Transportation Tech Center in Pueblo, Colorado, where a one-way derail derailed a 6-axle locomotive at 6.2 mph and a two-way derail derailed a 100-ton loaded hopper car at 5.1mph.

DR-5 Double-End Type

The DR-5 derails in both directions. Its dual step bars butt against ties to secure the derail. A set screw adjusts the derail fit to various rail sizes, and a clamp assembly accepts a padlock. At 50 pounds, it fits rails between 100-136#/yd. A sign & holder is included.

Improved Design

A tie-biting hook prevents the derail from sliding in the event a tie brace notch slips off the tie plate. The hook remains trapped between two ties during derailing. Installation can be performed without tools, as the four stainless-steel thumbscrews eliminate the need for wrenches. The device will not cause damage to rail surfaces.

SaberTooth Derails

Blue sign and holder are included with derails (red or orange signs are available). The derails are designed for rails 90 pounds and above that have wooden ties and tie spacing between 18-24 inches. The device will work for freight cars and all sizes of locomotives. It weighs 35 lbs.

Railcar Chocks and Blocks

Railcar Chocks are an important safety item in any rail yard or repair facility, and SafeRack’s railcar wheel chocks provide fast blocking of all types of railcars. Choose from cast steel railcar wheel chocks, rail-clamping wheel blocks the newly introduced urethane railcar wheel chocks… all of which provides worker safety and meets OSHA regulations to safely prevent railroad cars from moving during loading or unloading operations, including OSHA regulations 1910.110(15), 1910.11(13) and 1910.110(A) (5).

Double Chocks on each end of the car provide two-chock blocking against movement in either direction.

Railcar on Slope or Hill

Do not use wheel chocks. Use rail skids or car stops instead.

Railcar Being Worked – Slight Dip

On uneven track if the car tends to roll in one direction, single chocks on the foremost wheel of both wheel sets may be sufficient.

Multiple Railcar Chocking Procedures

Use double chocks. On flat track, where a line of rail cars remain coupled together, and are moved forward progressively to be loaded/unloaded: Brake and chock the car to be worked (chock both ends of the car). It may be necessary to brake and chock several cars behind the car to be worked depending on your operating conditions. When the first car is ready to be moved, remove the chocks and release the brakes on both cars. Move cars forward and repeat the braking and chocking procedure. If cars are uncoupled to be worked separately, brake and chock each car.


Railcar Wheel Chocks OSHA regulations

OSHA mandates the use of wheel chocks in addition to car brakes wherever rail cars are being worked, loaded or unloaded.

A gust of wind is enough to cause a 260,000 pound freight car to start rolling. Thanks to roller bearings, freight car wheels offer very little resistance to movement. In fact, the contact area of each wheel on the rail is smaller that the size of a dime. This is why moving heavy loads by rail is so efficient! But at the same time, all this mass, so easily moved, needs to be securely blocked while the car is being worked.

Loading freight cars increases the strain on the car brakes. Liquid pouring into a tank car or a forklift moving back and forth in a boxcar create dynamic forces which can overcome the holding power of the brakes.

Slack in mechanical car brakes can be enough to allow a wheel to move forward a few inches and dislodge a dock board or strain a hose line

Loading Pulp and Paper Railcars

(4) Handling pulpwood from flatcars and all other railway cars.

(V) Flatcars and all other cars shall be chocked during unloading. Where equipment is not provided with hand brakes, rail damping chocks shall be used.

(vi) A derail shall be used to prevent movement of other rail equipment into cars where persons are working.

(v) Brakes shall be set and wheels blocked on all cars being unloaded.

Our mobile fork lift yard ramps enables trailers or railcars to be loaded from the ground with a forklift even when a loading dock is not available. The 36-foot-long loading ramp creates a gradual incline and includes a 6-foot level-off area at the top for tailgate loads. It’s built with heavy steel channel and tubing. Twin hydraulic cylinders effortlessly raise the mobile forklift ramp. Custom ramps and sizes available upon request.

Fork Lift Yard Ramp Tow Bar Clamp Hitch

Add an optional fork clamp and tow bar to enable a forklift driver to maneuver the two-wheel ramp into position—chains hold the ramp in place after contact is made. We also offer a forklift loading ramp clamp that wraps around the loader and ramp to make the entire system portable.

Car pullers can put up to 4 tons of pulling power in the hands of your workers. SafeRack car pullers are designed for the industrial firm that needs to move from one to three freight cars  over short distances on flat track. They are typically used infrequently and are not recommended for tracks with grades.

Capstan-type car pullers can pull cars up to 300 feet in one direction. Cars can be pulled along single or parallel tracks, and the rope speed of the device is between 20-40 feet per minute.

Our safety interlock system prevents accidental drive-offs and can be designed into your pump, fall protection or any other preferred loading apparatus. The device increases safety at your loading spot and helps prevent damage to your loading racks. A driver or operator attaches the interlock fitting to the braking system of the truck, guaranteeing the process you put in place will be followed before the tanker can be loaded.
